This 60 minute interactive workshop provides an introduction to the use of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) (Goleman, 1998 and Stein & Book, 2000) and its role in enhancing Sustainable Leadership. EQ is about how well we handle ourselves and relationships with others. Right now intellectual expertise alone is not enough for the increasing challenges facing leadership in sustainability. The qualities of emotionally ‘intelligent’ leaders use skills to manage their own emotions wisely and achieve goals by managing interactions with others in ways that enhance the chances of constructively influencing others. Of course EQ cannot substitute for academic capacity; however using EQ tools can assist the using knowledge and capacity for greater impact. Some barriers to success are around effective behavior change; many have found that an improvement in EQ has helped to overcome such barriers.

This workshop will provide a fully interactive and collaborative forum where individual and group enquiry will provide insights and challenges into our own leadership by examining realms of EQ in order to create a paradigm shift to innovative Leaders of Sustainability.
