The realisation or execution of a Design as coherent piece of intellectual property based on Shared Meanings or common understandings amongst a community. A Work exists once a Design has reached a state of completion or finalisation. From a Rights point of view, a Work may be of a relatively original or relatively unoriginal Design, but it may not be a copy or reproduction of another Work, except in small part (by way of quotation, for instance) and where explicitly acknowledged as such, by means of Citation, for instance.
A Work is the intangible intellectual raw material from which one or more Products, Services or Events may be created. In the case of a the creation of a Book, a Work exists once a final Draft has been completed. A Work, however, always remains immanent within subsequent manifestations as a Product, Event or Service. For example, a poem may be published in as part of Product which takes the form of a Book, or it might be the lyrics for a song sung at an Event which takes the form of a Performance, and this in turn may be recorded and created as a Product in the form of an Audio Recording. The Work is the common content which may find alternative expression in different Product, Event or Service forms. A Work is uniquely identified by a Work Id.
